Thirst had the opportunity to create graphics for The United Flooded States of America, a national campaign to combat flooding with the participation of more than 30 community and regional leaders from 15 states. The initiative is led by Higher Ground, the largest flood survivor network in the country, and Anthropocene Alliance, a national nonprofit that educates and organizes those harmed by environmental abuse and climate change.
"With more intense and frequent rainstorms caused by climate change, almost anybody in the U.S. can be flooded. So we at Aa wanted our campaign to mitigate flooding to be suitably ecumenical. What better way to do it than with an American flag, modified to suggest waves from rising tides and overland flooding? Sure enough, people from all sorts of communities – rich and poor, black and white, North and South – embraced our messaging. The banners, pins and buttons designed by Thirst sprouted up in city council chambers, church basements, protest marches, social media and newspapers. Folks are united in their diversity and their commitment to combat flooding and climate change – that’s what the UFSA campaign was all about!!"
