An Evening with Satoru Nihei
The process of making food is similar to that of graphic design. Just like graphic design requires understanding of how form, images and type work together, cooking calls for in-depth understanding of all aspects of ingredients and how they will interact in order to integrate them harmoniously and execute a successful dish. Mastery in both fields comes from devoted practice and solid skills. Serving food is a friendly gesture, a generous invitation for entertaining, and a show of respect for all guests as equals. Food for Thoughts will be a place where all of us will connect through food, hospitality, conversation, in this extraordinary, yet curious, circle we call life.
Ensō What goes around comes around. Life comes full circle. In Zen, there is a word, enso 円相, which is a circle hand drawn in one or two strokes that symbolizes absolute enlightenment, strength, elegance and nothingness. In Japan, we say go-en ご縁, when we are connected by fate, or when we wish to establish a good connection.
Food for Thoughts is a collaboration between Satoru Nihei (Cranbrook MFA), Japanese designer and 2018 Thirst Artist in Residence, Anna Mort and Suzie Shin. See other projects with Satoru : Beautifools Memoir and Beautifools Memoir Book
